Help shape the future of the cadastre

Land Information New Zealand and the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors have established a joint working group to take a critical look at the cadastral survey industry.

Purpose of the working group

This working group aims to form a shared view of the future state of the cadastral survey industry, how key players will contribute, and what needs to be done to get there. Once this view is formed, we will be able to identify future opportunities and increased efficiencies in the industry for all those who create, regulate, maintain or use the cadastre.

Through a series of workshops over February-June 2009, the working group will:

  • Agree on the land development and cadastral information industries of the future, including participants, roles, accountabilities, expectations and systems of tomorrow's industry (February).
  • Develop a gap analysis that evaluates how we measure up now compared with where we want to be in the future (April).
  • Determine how we are going to move towards the future state of the survey industry (June).

How you can contribute.

The working group is keen to hear any views from those who create, regulate, maintain or use the cadastre. We are particularly interested in what you think are the key issues facing the industry, and what the opportunities are for the future. These will be considered at the next working group workshop in February 2009.

To participate, please forward your views, by 5 February 2009, to members of the joint working group, or to jointworkinggroup@linz.govt.nz

This is your chance to help shape the industry.

Visit the LINZ website for more information about the Survey Strategic Context, including the terms of reference, process, and background. Discussion papers produced from the workshops will also be published here as they are produced.
