Welcome to the GIS.org.nz knowledgebase!
| Hi. You've stumbled across the New Zealand GIS Wiki. This is a new collaborative project by a few kiwis who are interested in Geographical Information System (GIS) software, and the associated spatial data that goes with it.
This is a collaborative website, and we'd welcome anyone with an interest in GIS to sign up and contribute in any way you can. We would welcome contributions for both proprietary and open source software - everyone is welcome! [edit] New Zealand GIS CommunityOne of the goals of gis.org.nz is to attempt to gather in one place as much information as possible about the GIS community in New Zealand. This allows us all to get a better idea of who is doing what, and where. [edit] Geospatial Mash-up 2008[edit] Guidelines[edit] Government Geospatial Information Web Access GuidelineThe purpose of this Guideline is to unlock the government Geospatial Divide that is holding back NZ Inc. Geospatial data is a key component of the governments Digital Content Strategy, and Geospatial Strategy, key initiatives of the Digital Strategy with its vision of “New Zealand will be a world leader in using information and technology to realise its economic, social, environmental and cultural goals, to the benefit of all New Zealanders.” [edit] GIS and Emergency Management GuidelinesI've put a few pages up as placeholders that we can starting adding information to as it is collected as part of the GIS and Emergency Management guidelines that are being developed. [edit] The cost of joining the Knowledge EconomyIt would be interesting to track down the costs of an organisation that wants to develop a knowledge-based business, and the cost to obtain what could be considered baseline data from commercial vendors. [edit] Getting StartedCategories - provide an automated index of articles tagged with appropriate words. These are listed below for easy access. It will take us a while to get things organised here. In the meantime, here are links to other articles that may be of interest.

[edit] AccessYou can browse the wiki without registering, but due to spammers we've had to disable self-registration. You'll need to register through an admin if you want edit access to the wiki. Send an email to info at gis.org.nz with your desired username (no spaces) from the email address you wish to have the automatically generated password sent to. Note: The account for the wiki is different from the blog section of the website, as they are two different peices of software. In addition, mediawiki rules require the first letter of a username to be capitalised. [edit] Email ListPlease join up to our new discussion email list. The registration form can be found here. |
